I want to apologize to chat, who had to sit there for 45 minutes while some asshole (aka me) got the limelight he probably didn’t deserve, while driving one of my favorite streamers up a goddamn wall. Yeah, I broke all those.įinally, the whole reason I made this post- an apology. I consider myself an honorable man, I followed the rules to a T. I kept track of when I uploaded it- it was Wednesday, February 21st. I started my map the second I heard the contest was going on- around February 2nd or 3rd, when Joel posted the announcement video on Youtube.
The people telling me that I cheated, and made the map before the contest. However there was something that I got to me. Hell, I need this! Saying it was too long, and commenting on the gameplay. They were honest, and as I mapper, I respect this. I appreciate the way chat handled my mistake of a wad. I wonder what other classic games I can ruin… I’m becoming the person I made fun of in the ending text, George Lucas. The worst part? I knew it was too long, but like a idiot, I kept telling myself “Nah! It’ll be alright! He’ll get though it just fine!” Like an imbecile, I threw in everything but the goddamn kitchen sink, and it shows. The level I submitted was about 10 times that size. Moral: Sometimes a little bit of darkness turns things pitch black. We’re talking Doom 3 level of darkness here, people! It also matches the color of my heart! Yeah, I guess it looked fine on my monitor, but everyone’s settings are different. The Moral: Go easy on the puzzles, would ya? There’s a time and place for puzzles, but I may have gone too far in places. I guess I was high, or just plain stupid, but I decided to fill my level to the brim with stupid puzzles- one I copied straight from Pokemon (which, thankfully, most of chat got right away). Like an idiot, I did not make this clear. Moral: Try to streamline your map without messing it up (I guess?) You see, your’re supposed to shoot the bars, making them go up. At one point, Joel came to a halt in the little town section. Yeah, I did not make this clear in the map. #1- The Shadow Realm- (AKA Bloodroom 2: Electric Boogaloo) As a member of chat put perfectly- “A lot of meat, but too much to chew” Chat’s reaction as Joel loses his sanity… and his patience. You can question his Doom skills all you want, but my mapping skills are the ones that should be judged here. There’s no doubt about it.įirst of all, I have to say, that Joel is not at fault- I take all the blame. You know that Vinesauce Doom Contest? The one I posted about back in February? Yeah! That one! Well Joel finally played my level, and well…. It’s just too much!” -Joel describing the monstrosity I had created. To play the mod, you’ll need a copy of DOOM II, along with GZDoom, which you can snag here.“It’s good. Along with the Push, Pull, Heal, and Choke, you also have the Mind Trick, which causes confuses enemies and causes them to wander around temporarily, Lightning (which does extra damage to mechanical enemies), and the always enjoyable Saber Throw.
Finding two lightsabers in the mod will unlock Force abilities, and with each new one you come across, a new power unlocks. There are also optional add-on packs will replace props, add more new music, and fix compatibility issues with some mega WADs.
The mod includes 25 weapons (many from Dark Forces), more than 40 enemies, and new music and sounds. So, you can’t provoke Stormtrooper into taking each other out, but you can get them to take out bounty hunters. Imperials, aliens, and bounty hunters will fight the other side, but not amongst themselves. The mod eliminates the DOOM II hitscan weapons (which was almost all of them) in favour of the projectile-based mechanics of Dark Forces. Originally released last year, the mod has been updated with a few new fixes. The mod also gives us something that was lacking in Dark Forces: Force powers like Push, Pull, Heal, and Choke. Luckily, Xim’s Star Wars Doom mod for DOOM II does more than just bring over weapons and enemies from Dark Forces. Sure, there was the excellent Star Wars: Dark Forces back in the day, but I’m talking about mods. Mixing Star Wars and DOOM is kind of a no-brainer.
